Management Science and Practices – Series of Conferences

 
 

ORSI Ahmedabad Chapter has launched a new series of national conferences under the title Management Science and Practice with an aim to promote the discipline of Operations Research in India. The primary purpose of this conference series is to discuss and disseminate applied operations research in the Indian context. These conferences provide a meeting ground for industry specialists and application oriented academicians. They also expose young research students to emerging areas of research.

The first conference (MSP 2006) in this series was held in Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad during March 31 – April 1, 2006 in honor of Professor Jahar Saha on the occasion of his superannuation from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. This conference was attended by about 100 participants. About 50 scientific papers were presented in this conference. The edited volume of the proceedings of the conference is published. The second conference (MSP 2007) was held at Department of Management Sciences, IIT Madras, Chennai during March 9 – 11, 2007 in memory of Professor S.K. Srinivasan, Professor Emeritus, Department of Mathematics, Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai. This second conference in the series was attended by around 200 participants and presented papers include 100 contributed papers and around 28 invited presentations by eminent personalities from academics and industry.

 
 

Operational Research Society of India

 
  The Operational Research Society of India (ORSI) is a national forum set up with the objective of promoting the education and applications of Operational Research (OR) in day-to-day environment in business, industry and other organisations. It has headquarters in Kolkata (Calcutta) and is managed by duly elected Governing Council. The Society has many Chapters in different parts of the country. The Chapters are involved in activities such as lecture meetings, seminars and discussions, short courses/ workshops and counseling to student members. The Society is one of the founding members of the International Federation of Operational Research Societies (IFORS).  
 

Production and Quantitative Methods Area, IIM Ahmedabad

 
 

The faculty in P&QM area at Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad have expertise in a variety of basic disciplines like management science, operations management, operations research, industrial engineering, mathematics and stochastic process and statistics. Their research spans theoretical development and development of algorithms for solving operational problems as well as empirical modelling in areas of manufacturing, service operations, information modelling, technology management and innovation, finance, marketing and supply chain management. The faculty has strong linkages with industry and public systems that enables them to blend academic rigour and industry relevance in research and consulting. Contribution of P&QM area, IIM Ahmedabad in promoting OR is immense.
