Preface |
|
| |
The 37th ORSI Annual Convention was held in Ahmedabad during January
8-11, 2005, hosted by ORSI Ahmedabad Chapter with the active support
of Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. The Convention theme
was Vision 2020: The Strategic Role of Operations Research. |
|

|
| |
The 37th ORSI Annual Convention attracted about 300 participants
from various universities in India and select representatives from
Industry. We had a mix of invited speakers, panel discussions and
contributed papers. Three distinguished North American University
Professors enhanced the academic content and value of this
convention by their academic contribution. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Based on the quality of the papers presented in the Convention, the
Programmes Committee decided to bring out an edited volume of the
papers presented in the convention for wider dissemination.
Accordingly, all contributed papers included in the volume were
reviewed by distinguished academicians. The present volume includes
the contributions by the invited speakers and the revised articles
of the contributed papers. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
The included list of papers represent a whole range of papers in the
context of the convention theme. They are broadly classified into
theoretical contributions, application oriented papers and theme
based articles. The quality of the papers included in this volume
also broadly reflects the status of OR in our country. |

While this volume was in preparation, one of our distinguished
colleague Professor M.C. Puri fell victim to the desertedly
terrorist act in the Indian Institute of Science campus on December
28, 2005 during the 38th ORSI Annual Convention. Professor Puri
played a very important role in the design and conduct of the 37th
ORSI Annual Convention held in Ahmedabad. The OR community in India
would miss him in the forthcoming conventions. As a mark of respect,
we dedicate this volume to the memory of Professor M.C. Purl |

This volume would not have been possible but for the support of the
reviewers, invited speakers and authors who have contributed papers.
Mr. Hasmukh Gajjar needs a special mention for his untiring effort
in tracking the papers from the beginning. The publishers extended
their cooperation to the best of their ability to bring out this
volume. The Secretarial work related to this volume was ably handled
by my secretary .Ms. Santhi.

lt has taken closer to a year and half to bring out this proceedings
for a variety of reasons which went beyond our control. We thank the
authors for their patience. We hope this volume would be found
useful by the academicians and the practitioners in India. |
