The Operational Research
Society of India (ORSI) is a national forum set
up with the objective of promoting the education
and applications of Operational Research (OR) in
day-to-day environment in business, industry and
other organisations. It has headquarters in
Kolkata (Calcutta) and is managed by duly
elected Governing Council. The Society has many
Chapters in different parts of the country. The
Chapters are involved in activities such as
lecture meetings, seminars and discussions,
short courses/ workshops and counseling to
student members.
Membership of ORSI has various categories:
Fellow, Senior Member, Life Member/Member,
Student Member and Institutional Member.
The Society conducts Graduateship examination in
Operational Research once every year in May at
several centers in India. The graduateship
examination is recognized by the Ministry of
Human Resources Development, Government of
India. Students who have graduated in this
programme are well accepted in the academic and
industrial environments.
The ORSI publishes a quarterly journal called
OPSEARCH, which is recognized as one of the
leading journals of OR in the world.The Society is one of the founding members of
the International Federation of Operational
Research Societies (IFORS). It is also an active
member of the Asian Pacific Operational Research
Societies (APORS) and has taken a major role in
the publication of the Asia-Pacific Journal of
Operational Research. The IFORS is recognized by
the United Nations as a specialist world
organization. The ORSI holds a national
Convention every year.
